ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

USE OF COMPUTER SERVICES AT CARDONALD COLLEGE

Cardonald College provides Internet access and other computer services to students and staff for communication and study purposes, to support education and to enhance the learning process.

The College wants to promote the use of this powerful and exciting educational facility and encourages all students to make use of it. In order to ensure that this service can continue to be available universally it is vital that users behave responsibly and use the facilities in an acceptable manner. For this reason we require that all users abide by the following regulations:-

1. NO HACKING - No user may try to obtain unauthorised access to services and facilities of other Internet sites (usually referred to as “Hacking”) using college facilities.

2. DO NOT ACCESS OBSCENE/ILLEGAL MATERIAL - No user may obtain material in any format (including text, graphics, moving images, photographs, sound files etc) which is illegal under the terms of the Obscene Publications Act, the Race Relations Act or any other legislation applicable in Scotland. Any such material downloaded accidentally must be deleted immediately.

3. No user may claim to be representing the College in an official capacity when using any application such as E-mail. Each user may use these applications in a personal capacity only, and must make it clear that they are acting on their own behalf.

4. Offensive language must not be used over the Internet.

5. No user may maliciously attempt to harm, modify or destroy data belonging to another user, damage software, hardware or other networks connected to the Internet; upload or create computer viruses.

6. The Internet should only be used for educational purposes.

Cardonald College makes no warranties of any kind for the service it is providing. Use of any information obtained via the Internet is entirely at the user’s own risk.

Use of these services may be monitored at any time by College staff. Users who breach this policy will have their access to Internet facilities suspended while an investigation takes place and may be open to disciplinary or legal action initiated by the college or a third party.
